ESA Letter to Arizona Commission Highlights Lithium-Ion Safety Record, Recommends the Commission Incorporate Appropriate Safety Standards

In a letter filed today in Arizona docket number E-01345A-19-0076, ESA underscores the industry’s safety record to date and addresses several misunderstandings in an August 2 letter filed by Commissioner Kennedy on the safety of large-scale lithium-ion energy storage systems. ESA also provides information on our industry’s actions to ensure the continued safe deployment of energy storage across the country, including ESA’s Corporate Responsibility Initiative, launched in early 2019. Finally, ESA recommends the Commission and Arizona utilities ensure adoption of the appropriate standards applicable to forthcoming storage system installation and implement emergency response plans to minimize the low risk of safety incidents at storage facilities.
